Marginalists – performance space magicians

Marginalist concepts have a very special, interesting and deep meaning.

Ever since they started going to an empty space that used to be a marketplace,

they developed it into a place for gathering, painting the walls,

setting up DJs for events, having locals involved to sell flea market items,

making it into a gathering place for everyone to come and have a taste of the community.

Many people and children in the area enjoy coming here.

Other than being a gathering for a flea market and activities,

tidying up the area and placing people there gives visitors a feeling that

makes them realize there is a special aura about it, a special relationship is

created between the people and the area and its activities.

I hope this place creates a feeling like traditionalist Taiwanese markets which rely more on

relationships and people making connections and having morning chats rather than like a department store shopping feeling.

The dream has not completely come true yet,

but it’s because we have dreams that we can begin developing them and making them happen.

Although we are marginalists, we are gaining recognition and people are coming to us to help develop their goals.

We have been doing this for four years and through the money we make from doing this we are able to

use it on making our dreams grow.

This has given us a feeling of achievement and being able to graduate into society and be independent.

This world needs a bit of rebellion

Our parents care about us, but we need to develop some rebellion in order to develop our own selves.

We do not have as much pressure in our lives, we have a lot of options,

and then on top of that with the internet allowing us to develop our interests,

we can end up putting a lot of things aside, so a lot of young people are like strawberry people –

people who are unable to face difficulties.  Not like our parents,

who when faced with obstacles worked harder and held firm, but it’s not like we are now useless,

but we are just looking for a way to become independent, finding our own place in this world,

we think about these things and ask ourselves what we can accept,

we can’t just accept what other people tell us so we have to put effort into finding a way to try what will work for us.

If we think about doing what we want to do, we have to keep at it,

when trying to communicate this to our elders,  if it is “right” then they can agree with it,

not just because we want to do it, but it may not necessarily be what we want to do,

if we ask ourselves what we really want to do, and if the parents are against it,

but we think we can do it, then go do it anyway.

After having this chat with the marginalists, what they want to share with others

learn to change your sight of looking things】

Although the name marginalists was only incidental,

when we stand and look at things from their centre,

we are able to experience their way of looking at things,

and if we do this, we can develop different ideas and thoughts,

and see the value in their thinking.  When they construct things for customers,

they likewise put themselves in the shoes of their customers, and as a result,

are able to provide value to the community.

The place of marginalists is like a cycle, they are always there,

but it is because of this walking cycle that they will always be able to continue to neverendingly go forward.
